Last Gentleman On Playa is back on his home record label, It's Good To Be A Tree, with a delightful organic house release, which also features remixes by Betelgeize and Waxwood.
Well known as a Burning Man regular, Last Gentleman On Playa is a respected producer and well-travelled DJ. His innovative mid-tempo style combines charming melodies and organic sounds with tribal drums.
The EP's title track, "Bagus" has mystical flutes and vocals about aboriginal cultures layered over a chugging synth bass with acid tones. Betelgeize's remix of "Bagus" lifts the tempo and works in some melodic pads to create an uplifting version. Waxwood adds some funk to his version with a new bassline that is layered with a jazz piano and vocal sample about blues music. "Opagundes" is a downtempo track with metallic percussion and a psychedelic bassline laying a foundation for bleeping synths. "Nanuka" is the track that features Valique, and it is a soothing track with deep pads and a trippy flute at the heart of its swirling groove.
